Session #78

14 H’rarmont (10:00)

Depart from Hatler Wood.

4 Griffons

  • 12 hours to Hamlet (Flying)

  • Griffons have saddles with safety lines (Unless you adept to flying, Alhana strongly suggest using them as Griffons are impulsive and has appetite for horseflesh.

Animal Handling Check are done and successful.

  • Griffon 1 = Hermes / Dorren - 60hp / AC 12

  • Griffon 2 = Kelson / Jack - 62hp / AC 12

  • Griffon 3 = Heimdall / Le Nordais - 61hp / AC 12

  • Griffon 4 = Alhana - 64hp / AC 12

Alhana gives you a quick course on Griffon riding.

Alhana says best hang on tight… and she says who ever sits in front, you need to say the command in Elvish for take off.  Vorthië (vor-thee-eh) (Action to Rise).

The griffon spreads its massive, feathered wings and takeoff. The climb is steep. As the ground falls away rapidly, the air grows cooler and thinner. The ground and trees below shrink, giving you a sense of just how vast the landscape truly is. The griffons stabilize their ascent around 600-700 feet, leveling off into a smooth glide.

The griffon's movements become more fluid, less frenetic, as it transitions from climbing to cruising. At this altitude, the horizon seems endless.

Stop for a rest

After about 6 hours of travel (now 16:00), Alhana tells you that the Griffons need to Hydrate, we need to find a suitable and safe area to descend and rest for about an hour.

The griffons begin their descent. Alhana spots a potential areas of interest. A clearing between large boulders, appears to be a good spot to land. A small river seems to flow from the rock formations.  The griffons let out cries as they circle lower and land.

Once you have rested and ready for departure, some of hear faint rustle of leaves and hushed whispers in the distance.

Draconian attack

At the same moment, one of the Griffons is hit by an arrow.  2 Sivak draconians in tinted blue armor and 3 Baaz draconians attack.

After the combat, you find 2 Amulets that have fallen from the Sivak Draconians now turned to dust. 2 amulets of Subterfuge.  Heimdall (attuned) and Dorren have them.

You decide to stay the night.  Next day…

15 H’rarmont (07:00)

Departure (continued)

As the first rays of dawn stretch across the horizon, you prepare to depart the tranquil clearing. The air is crisp and cool, the griffons, now well rested and alert.

The eastern horizon remains shrouded in dark with storm clouds. The sunrise fights to break through. Occasional flashes of lightning light up the distant peaks and the low rumble of thunder rolls faintly over the land.

As your griffons lift off into the morning air, the clearing falls away beneath you. The air grows cooler as you ascend, carrying with it the lingering scent of rain. The storm ahead feels alive as it hangs over the mountains.

Army in sight…

About an hour into your flight, at 700 feet above the terrain, you can see a patchwork of forest, hills, and open plains. Skies are gray from the above cloud cover that is at about 900 feet, but clear enough to make out details on the ground below.

In the distance, approximately three miles away, a column of about 300-400 soldiers marching in tight formation comes into view.

The soldiers are steadily moving westward, their organized march cutting through the landscape.  Alhana mentions that, at this height, we will most likely be spotted.

You decide to Fly in the Cloud Cover, that will obscure you from view, and Fly around of the Army’s Sight, and increasing the distance so you don’t draw attention.

You manage to avoid being detected or do you?…. The army below doesn’t seem to make any unusual movement that indicates your been detected.

Dragon surprise..

The clouds hang about 200 ft above you. Below you, the endless green sea of the forest stretches in every direction, and the Bluegate mountains still at a distance.  Your griffons beat their wings steadily carrying you closer to the small village of Hamlet. The air is crisp and cold at this altitude, each breath refreshing.

After about an hour Passed the Army, far ahead, clouds gather, swirling and building into thunderheads. More thunder followed by streaks of lightning splitting the sky in the distance. The griffons shift uneasily beneath you.

As the storm builds to the east, the wind begins to increase, tugging at cloaks and armor, forcing the griffons to work harder to stay steady. Alhana, shouts over the heavy wind.

Alhana : Hold on tight, these winds will only get worse!

Before her words can fully register, a very large shadow passes over you in the thin grey clouds. The griffons cry out in alarm, banking sharply to the south.

From the churning clouds above, a monstrous roar echoes. Then, descending right in your path with grace and speed, 2 massive dragons break through the clouds above.

Blocking the way and stopping the Griffons from advancing forward. The griffons stop and in their tracks, hovering in fright...

The one closest is large blue dragon (the same in the dragon fight (White / Blue), a figure sits the beast, blackened armor.

On the other, a red eyed knight…. sitting on a terrifying dragon of skeletal and partially decayed purple flesh, its bones are jagged and blackened as if charred by fire. Its eyes glow with an eerie ghostly blue light.

When stablelized, the rider in the blackened armor pulls back its helm, revealing a strikingly familiar face, Le Nordais you immediately recognize you sister, Kitiara.   Her piercing eyes sweep over you all, smiling.

Kitiara : So, we meet again, I wondered when I’d see you again.   Her gaze lingers to Le Nordais.

Kitiara : Brother, still playing the noble fool, by trying to save this world...    She looks at all of you.

Kitiara : I didn’t come here to kill you - if I wanted that, you’d already be dead.

I’m here to make you an offer. You can waste your lives fighting for a cause that will bury you, or you can rise above this petty struggle and join the dark Queen's noble cause.

Together, we could shape the future of Krynn. Think of what we could accomplish… as allies, not enemies.

She looks again at Le Nordais and addresses him directly.

You know I speak the truth brother. This world will be ruled by the strong, and I would rather see you rise with me than fall with them.

What say you? Join me and rule or perish as the forgotten ones...

As you don’t wish to join her cause, Kitiara and her dragon push back leaving the skeletal dragon to attack.

Combat starts.
