Session #74

7 H’rarmont (930 pm)

Combat continues with the Thanoi, Feal-Thas seems to have moved into a room in the back, but re-appears from the North-West side of the court yard. Shoots off a few spells in your direction, Chain Lightning and says to you : You think this battle matters? While you waste your strength here, she is already preparing the skies to freeze your hopes.

Combat continues, he shoot out a cone of cold and says : You may strike me down, but you will not survive what lies ahead in Naraka. The Queen sees all.

You manage to finally put him down, and just before passing his final breath, he says to you : You think you have victory? Foolish mortals, you understand nothing of the forces at play. The will of Takhisis is inevitable, and insignificant beings like you can do nothing to stop it. Kill me if it brings you solace, but remember this: your triumph is but an illusion, as fleeting as a whisper lost in the frozen shadows.

Now lying on the ground, lifeless, after about a minute Feal-Thas' body begins to decompose at an extremely fast rate, including his clothing and armor. His pale white skin start to thin out revealing bone and muscle. Decomposition continues until only bone if left. then all his bone turn to dust leaving nothing behind but his weapons (longsword +2) and an amulet that was around his neck.

You gather the longsword and amulet and head into Feal-Thas’ quarters and library to investigate.  You find a secret room in the library containing a destroyed book that contains some writing that is still readable on different pages:

"The enemies of the Highlords are rumored to gather In Palanthas."

"The secret of the Dragonlances is (illegible passage)...Foghaven. Is there...place, or...legend?"

"Must gain the...of the lance before the ...Solamnia!"

"Orb safe... Lower Reaches..."  (you know that the word "Reaches" is shown just under “Ice wall Castle” on the map that was in Feal-Thas’ quarters.)

Items found in the secret room: are 3 scrolls :

  • Scroll of Polymorph (4th)

  • fly (3rd),

  • haste (3rd)

The amulet of darkness: While you wear this holy symbol of Takhisis, you gain +2 on saving throw DCs on all his spells.

Dragon Queen’s Favor which he can use (instantaneous) 6 times per day: You or one creature he can see within 60 feet magically regains 2d12+4 hit points.

While you wears this amulet, the wearer can talk to the Dark Queen (Thakisis). Once this property is used, it can’t be used again until the next dawn.

The Amulet can also be used to cast True Polymorph on one target once per day.

Heimdall also detects some blurred features that where not identifiable, but with an arcana check he discovered that the amulet acts as a location device, but can’t determine by who or what.  Another identify and arcana check will be possible on the next day.

Stayed in the hidden room for a long rest.

8 H’rarmont (7 am)

Exit room and head to the tower down to the lower level, you find 3 Ice folk trapped in a cell block.  You freed them and the went on there way. The 3 ice folk where from the Arctic Fox clan.  Most of their clan was killed or captured in the fight against the White dragon’s army (30 minotaurs, 50 Thanoi and a large white dragon and his rider).

Continue the search below, you killed a slithering blue scaled creature that was captive.

Creature was killed.

In another portion of the lower level, a dragon nursery, with 3 white baby dragon and dozens of eggs.

Another section seems to be the dragon’s pantry, the walls of this cavern are lined with dozens of people who would appear to be sleeping if it weren't for the frigid whiteness of their skin and the touch of frost that coats them. Warriors dressed in heavy furs but covered in ice and snow.  You recognize some of them as Ice folk.

Another area seems empty but is very large, contains a section of straw on the ground and against one of the walls.  On the opposite side, many items seem to be kept under a thick layer of ice and snow.

After taking some time to melt down the wall of ice, you find the following :

  • 10,000 SP

  • 23,000 GP

  • 990 PP

  • Small hour-glass filled with sand that is not frozen

  • Skull of a Polar bear

  • Urn containing ashes (ashes from dragon children that died (4))

  • 3 Gems (10gp)

  • 6 Gems (50gp)

  • 4 Gems (500gp)

  • 2 Gems (1000gp)

  • 1 potion of Healing - https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/8960641-potion-of-healin

1 potion of hill giant strength - https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/4706-potion-of-hill-giant-strength

  • 4 cross-bow bolts (+3)

  • 1 Flask (Oil of etherealness) - https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/4687-oil-of-etherealness

  • 1 Orb of the White Dragon:

    • The orb is an etched crystal globe about 5 inches in diameter.  When used, it grows to about 10 inches in diameter, and white mist swirls inside it.

    • Inscribed on the orb's surface are the words "Argentum Commandares".  These words must be spoken to activate the orb.

    • To attune to the orb, you must make a DC 18 Charisma check. On a successful check, you partially control the orb's powers for as long as you remain attuned to it.  On a failed check, the consequences are unknown, as the orb's magic veils any attempts to discern its true effects. Any effort to identify potential outcomes is clouded, making it impossible to foresee what may occur while attuned to the orb.  The creature may not attempt to attune to the orb before 3 days.  Partial control properties are revealed only when attuned.

    • To gain full control over the orb’s powers, an attuned creature must undergo a Ritual of Resonance. This ritual requires the creature to concentrate for one uninterrupted day (dusk to dawn), during which they must succeed on three consecutive DC 20 Wisdom saving throws (maximum of 5 per day).

    • Any interruptions in concentration or failure on a saving throw causes the ritual to fail.  However, failure results in the creature no longer being attuned.  The creature may not attempt to attune to the orb before 3 days.

    • On a successful completion of the ritual, the creature gains full control of the orb’s powers, unlocking all of its properties and spells without restriction, as long as they remain attuned. Full control properties are revealed only when the Reasonance Ritual is successful.
