Session # 113
8 Phoenix (11:00)
Command Centre
The aerial battle rages overhead, griffons diving, dragons roaring, the sky a whirl of lightning, wings and dragonlances. Suddenly, the great silver dragon surges upward, seizing a blue dragon in his claws. With a brutal twist, he pulls the creature close and breathes a blast of freezing cold straight into its chest.
The blue dragon’s wings ice over and it plummets. It crashes onto a watch platform, destroying one of the ballistas as the silver dragon wheels back toward the fight.
A few seconds later a blue Dragon circles the tower and approaches the watch platform and dives for an attack.
Combat between Heimdall, Tyvar, the Knights with the Ballistas and the Blue Dragon.
Kitiara Combat
After receiving that fireball in the back, Kitiara staggers, just for a heartbeat. Then she drags in a sharp breath as her wounds slightly heal and stop bleeding. Her stance hardens, and her eyes focus.
Kitiara charges with predatory speed, her cloak snapping behind her like the wings of a hunting hawk.
Her eyes lock on her brother, her expression a volatile mix of fury, betrayal, and something dangerously close to grief.
Holding her blade with two hands she attacks Le Nordais.
Kitiara presses in for her second attack, but something in the corner of her eye slows her momentum.
She see Laurana, kneeling and concentrating behind her brother. The Dragon Orb glowing, threads of magic winding around her hands like living light.
Kitiara’s expression shifts—from rage to cold, calculating fear. Her attention snaps from Le Nordais to Laurana.
Oh no, princess. Of all the cursed things you could’ve touched… a dragon orb will be the last. And I’ll make damn sure you never finish what you started.
In a swift motion, she slides her longsword back into its scabbard. You see her reach to her belt, two daggers glinting in each hand. She raises her arms, choosing not her brother… but Laurana. She steps just past Le Nordais, eyes locked on Laurana. And with a sharp, furious exhale, she lets the first dagger fly, it misses, the second one, definitely hits, but at the last moment, the Dragon Orb give out a sharp pulse that deflects the second dagger away from Laurana.
The combat continues on with Kitiara, jack, Dorrem and Kelson join the fight, and in the end Kitiara falls to her death.
With Kitiara finally gone and her immediate threat lifted, the chamber seems to hold its breath.
As Laurana attempts her final effort to attune with the orb, a thin ribbon of light, coils up her arms, flickering, unstable.
Her jaw clenches, her hands tremble, She leans in, almost collapsing over the orb as she forces one last effort of will into it. For a heartbeat, the orb's glow dims…
And then ..... (she rolls a 24)... Success !!
Dragon Orb Attuned...
Laurana gasps as the final thread of magic snaps into place. A violent surge of White light erupts from the orb, pouring through everything like a storm. Her knees buckle, her breath catches, then her eyes snap open, glowing bright white.
She stands rigid, trembling…she rises slowly, her hair drifting in an unseen breeze, her silhouette haloed in white light. Laurana : “I see them,” “Every dragon. Every heartbeat.
Laurana stands with the Orb in hand. She closes her eyes. Her breath steadies. The orb pulses once… twice… and then, BOOM !!! A shockwave of white radiance erupts from the Orb, silently but with terrifying force. The air bends. Every surface in the room reflects white light as though the very stones of the tower have come alive.
The Tower's gates (Red on the map) on level 1 all start to raise at the same time...
Laurana’s feet lift an inch off the ground. Dragon symbols spin around her like a halo.
Laurana: “Hear me.”
Her voice echos accompanied with a dozen ancient dragons. “Come to me.”
The words are projected. A command hurled across the sky of Solamnia like a telepathic thunderclap.
Instantly, You can hear the Dragons scream in the distance. “I… I feel them.” “They are coming.”
Dragons and Draconians React
All the Draconians across the battlefield scream, clutching their heads as their minds fracture. Formations collapse, chaos erupts. Every blue dragon in the sky suddenly stops mid-stroke. Their eyes flare with panic and fury and they break formation, unable to resist, they fly toward the base of the tower.
The Kobolds, human mercenaires and the hobgoblins look confused at the draconians panicking, shocked to see dragons and draconians breaking ranks. They start to fall back.
The dragon, now entering the base of the tower are stuck in the trapes, specially constructed for this. They are unwillingly pulled towards the Dragon orb. The Orb creates a 30 feet protection field that protect all inside from any breath attacks. the dragons breath their lighting towards the orb, of course, no effect.
The valley and tower are a slaughterhouse. The Dragon Orb’s command has driven every blue dragon into a tangled mass at the tower’s base, thrashing blindly as knights drive dragonlances into wings, throats, and eyes. One by one, the beasts fall.
To the west, the mercenaries, kobolds, and hobgoblins flee—only to be cut down by furious villagers from Brightblade Keep, Relgoth, Jansburg, and Ryn. For a brief moment, victory seems within reach.
You all assist in attacking the trapped Dragon, and eventually all 5 of them fall to their death.
Outside there are cries of victory from the Knights. As you exit the tower, from above the tower.. A massive Death Dragon bursts through the fog, wings creaking like rotting timber, violet fire burning in its skull. Upon its back sits a Death Knight—silent, immovable.
The remaining Griffons and the Silver dragon
are stiil airborn and wounded from the aerial
combat with the blue dragons.
